Common award

Many on-site roles are covered by the Building and Construction General On-site Award. Rates vary widely by classification, tickets and enterprise agreements. Construction pay often sits above the National Minimum Wage — so the NMW is only a floor.

Floor from 1 July 2026

  • National Minimum Wage: $26.44/hr
  • Award/agreement-free casual: $33.05/hr

We do not invent Building Award classification rates. Confirm your level in the Fair Work Pay Calculator before relying on any advertised figure.

Practical notes for backpackers

  • White Card is commonly required before site work
  • Labour-hire arrangements still must meet award or agreement minimums
  • Overtime and weekend penalties are common — check the roster rate
  • Keep payslips; cash-only site work is a red flag

Super

Eligible construction employees generally receive Super Guarantee at 12%.
