Darwin
Darwin is the end of the Stuart Highway and the base for Litchfield and Kakadu. Mindil Beach markets (seasonal), the waterfront and a sunset at Mindil or Cullen Bay are the easy free evenings. The wet season, roughly November to April, changes which park roads are open. A planner can warn you. It cannot see today’s road closure, so check the park notices before you drive past the bitumen.
Suggested time: 3 days in the dry season.
